Leidsenhage (later to become 'Mall of the Netherlands') is currently undergoing an extensive transformation in response to all of today’s trends and developments in the retail sector. This will be a unique, entirely covered shopping centre with 117,000 m² offering 4-star service. It will be completely unlike any other shopping centre in the Netherlands. Contributing to this will be the arrival of flagship stores in which retailers place a high priority on brand experience and a designer gallery for the most trendy brands. Other factors include architectural quality, distinctive restaurants, special brand-related events, a multiplex cinema, and an adjoining park with water feature.
Unibail-Rodamco Westfield invests about € 590 million in the current shopping center turning it into the largest indoor shopping center of the Netherlands.
It is a unique project, since this will be the first indoor shopping center that has been build in the last thirty years. The current store location Leidsenhage (now 74.500 m2) is suitable for this, thanks to the 6.8 million people who live in the ‘Randstad’. The prognosis is, that the new shopping center will attract some12 to 14 million visitors a year.
In total ‘The Mall of the Netherlands’ will have, after the large-scale redevelopment, whereby some offices and parts of the existing retail are demolished, a retail area of 117,000 m2 and about 280 stores, including Anchor Stores plus additional parking facilities.
