De Rotterdam, Rotterdam

The vertical city 'the Rotterdam' is constructed on the Wilhelmina Pier in Rotterdam and the most densely cultivated land in the Netherlands (Floor Space Index = approximately 30). On the surface of a football pitch stands this multi-functional building with a height of 150 meters. The variety and mix of functions in the building contribute to the 24/7 using this project. The design consists of a six-story Plinth, some thirty meters, and on top of that rise three transparent towers with a facade made entirely of glass and windows from floor to ceiling. The public function on the Ground Floor - Rotterdam Square '- with the thirty meter high Atrium - unlocks the floor levels. The various entrance lobbies of 8.5 meters high to the three towers and other functions are located on the Wilhelminakade. In this project, seven different contractors were involved.

The Rotterdam scored substantially higher than other construction projects on the theme of sustainability. On all possible fronts, in the design, density, mix of functions, method of construction, equipment and energy is one of the most sustainable buildings in the Netherlands. For example, the river water is used to cool the building.
